Today, I pretty much took a break from writing…from actual composition, anyway. I’m still between projects, trying to decide which to pursue next. (Leaning toward a novel, but we’ll see.) I did, however, work on the marketing side of things, which has been pretty dormant for a while. I looked for new places to send fiction, plus generated a query for a comic book series and sent a novella to a great new market. This is all vital work, long neglected, and I’m glad I finally forced myself to get down to it. But I must admit I feel kind’a guilty for not kicking off the next fiction project. No matter how important the marketing and business work, it ain’t actual writing…and actual writing, more than anything, is how you grow the business. The more work you write and mail, the better your chances of selling something. It’s like the lottery: you gotta play to win.
So what’s in store for tomorrow? To be honest, I’m not sure. I’m planning to work on a proposal and some queries, but I don’t know beyond that. Hopefully, I’ll launch a new story or something, even if it’s just a few words to get the ball rolling. It all depends on how the day goes; like today, it promises to deliver a number of distractions. Here’s hoping I’ll be able to balance them with my work at the keyboard. See you soon.
