I’ve been working pretty hard on a new project lately, and I’m really roaring along. It’s a full-length graphic novel, and I’m having a great time writing it. It’s so different from writing straight prose…more challenging in some ways, more fun in others. Best of all, the characters have reached that wonderful stage where they’ve taken on a life of their own. In other words, they’ve come to life in my mind and started to steer their own destinies. Sometimes, what they want agrees with my plans, and other times, it doesn’t. This is one of my absolute favorites things about writing. On the other hand, one of the things that drives me nuts is when I get so many pages piled up, it’s hard to remember everything that has gone before. I’m at that point right now. I’ll be cruising along, writing new pages, and all of a sudden, I’ll stop and say, “Whoa! Wait! This contradicts something that happened on page 27, doesn’t it?” It really does get hard to keep track. Could be time for a nice session of review and outlining to help me keep everything in perspective. Either way, I’m roaring along and having tons of fun, which is what writing should be all about. Now if I can just keep the coming holidays from making too big a dent in my writing schedule, I’ll be happy. But we’ll see. Lots to do, lots to do. See you soon!
