TMI-itis: A Scourge

January 19, 2010

In the old days of the 1980s, good information about writing and publishing was hard to come by.  The best available sources were a handful of books and magazines, which were invariably out of date as soon as you walked them out the door of the bookstore or library.  These days, thanks to the Internet, there’s a ton of information out there, and great whopping oodles of downright excellent info in the bargain!  One problem this can lead to, though, is TMI-itis:  Too Much Information.  Right now, for example, there are some truly top notch blog series on professional writing appearing online.  There are so many excellent, detailed posts, plus comments that in some cases exceed the original posts, that I’ve having trouble getting everything read and processed!  It’s actually causing a conflict in my already overbooked schedule of daily writing-related tasking!  But there’s no way I’m going to miss out on this quality intelligence from the front lines of successful pro writers’ careers.  So I’ll just have to keep squeezing in my absorption of all this great information and be grateful I’m not living back in the 80s again, depending on a handful of outdated articles from books and magazines that never rose to the level that these well-informed and generous bloggers’ series of posts do on a daily basis.  Thank God for the Internet!  (In this case, at least!)  See you soon!
