As of today, this website has a second address: www.thefictioneer.com. The original URL still works, too, of course: www.robertjeschonek.com. Why the add-on domain? Quite simply, because it’s more memorable. When I’m talking to someone such as a stranger or casual acquaintance, and I mention I have a website, and they say they’d like to check it out, it’s a real pain trying to get across my original url. It’s that last name of mine: Jeschonek. People just can’t remember it. If they don’t write it down right there on the spot as I describe it to them, I know without a doubt they’ll forget. On the other hand, it’s much easier to say to someone, “thefictioneer.com!” It’s odd, easy to say, and easy to remember. Ought to come in handy in many situations…especially at conventions, which I attend as a guest from time to time. When I serve on a panel at a fantasy or science fiction convention, I have a roomful of potential readers of my work right there in front of me. It’s a great opportunity for promoting my website, which in turn promotes my writing endeavors. But good luck trying to get them all to remember www.robertjeschonek.com, especially because the last name’s complex without being memorable…and let’s face it, the name isn’t “big” enough yet to stick in people’s minds like “Stephen King” or “J.K. Rowling.” So we’ll see how it works out. I think it’s a smart idea and will have a positive impact down the line; maybe not in the immediate future, but a little further ahead in my career. It ought to be easier for you to remember, too, and give out to your friends…so mention it to some of them if you get the chance. Spread the word. Lots of writing talk and insight posted daily; also ruminations on assorted and sundry TV shows, music, comic books, book books, websites, and pet peeves. But mostly writing stuff. Thanks for your support, as always. See you tomorrow!
