Internetus Interruptus

February 10, 2009

Well, I had a wonderful post about writing streaks all written and ready to roll…then hit “Publish,” and it disappeared into Internet limbo.  Seems I had an outage right at that there moment.  And now I’m out of time and energy and just can’t drum up a similarly supercalifragilisticexpialidoshus post for this day.  So this will have to do.  To tie it all back in with my writing, let’s just say sometimes you run into these little speed bumps (my mentor, Dean Wesley Smith, calls them “life rolls,” as in bad rolls of the dice while playing the writing game)…and if you want to be a pro, you just have to get past them and keep writing.  Along those lines, I’m in the midst of a streak right now.  For the past 21 days, I’ve met my daily goal of a thousand words on my new novel.  Looking ahead, since I’m going out of town this weekend with my wife, I know I’ll miss Saturday at least (probably Friday and Sunday, too), so the streak will end there.  But the key is, I’m already looking ahead to next Monday and starting a new streak then.  Even now, I’m reshaping my mindset, redirecting my efforts to pick up Monday where I leave off going into this weekend on the road.  That really is what it’s all about: no matter what delay or internet interruption or weekend out of town you encounter, you have to keep rolling again as soon as possible afterward.  To that end, this little blog post winging your way in spite of internet agonies.  See you tomorrow!
