Publishing runs on a strange timetable. For example, I’ve just had a run of months without seeing anything new appear in print. I’d sold stories and articles, but the publications they were set to appear in seemed to be postponed until some distant, indefinite future. Now, all of a sudden, I’m getting author’s copies of several published projects in close succession. I’ve already talked about my essay in In the Hunt: Unauthorized Essays About Supernatural and my article in Star Trek Magazine #16. Well, today, I just got my copy of Crime Spells, an anthology from DAW books featuring fantasy stories with a crime angle. Or would that be crime stories with a fantasy angle?
My story in this volume is titled “The Wish of a Wish,” and revolves around a genie trapped in an abusive relationship. Someone comes to rescue her, but how can he? The genie’s master can force her to use her vast powers against the very man who’s come to save her.
I think it’s a cool and heartfelt story, and I hope you’ll check it out. You can order Crime Spells from Amazon here. It’ll also be in your local bookstore, but I’m not sure of the exact publication date. In addition to my story, you’ll find great stories by some good friends of mine, including my mentors, Dean Wesley Smith and Kristine Kathryn Rusch. Dean’s story is called “The Old Girlfriend of Doom.” (I like that title!)
Now if I can just sell some novels, stories, and articles for next year, too! See you tomorrow!
