My Secret Super Power

March 4, 2009

My secret super power is the ability to make things break down and fall apart.  There, my secret’s out.  Every now and then, I go through times when everything I touch, especially electronic or mechanical, just quits working and/or disintegrates.  I’m going through such a time right now.  You might recall my wireless keyboard went kaflooey just the other day; I lost Internet access on my laptop the very same evening.  There’ve been some other incidents…and now my desk chair is broken!  I’ve had it since December 2007, bought from Staples, and now the left armrest has cracked, and I can’t put any weight on the back of the chair!  Good thing I already have to lean forward to type on my laptop since I don’t have my wireless keyboard!  I’ll have to make some phone calls tomorrow, but it doesn’t look good.  According to my receipt, I could only return the chair within 14 days.  I’ll have to see if I have a manufacturer’s warranty hidden away.  What really irritates me is that the sales guy at Staples tried to sell me a lifetime replacement coverage for twenty or thirty bucks or something, and I turned it down.  If I’d bought the darn warranty, Staples would have supplied me with a new chair no questions asked.  At least I think so.

I’m starting to worry, though.  It’s like my writing office is under attack.  First the keyboard and Internet, now my chair!  Too many distractions.  Actually, that’s a good theme for the whole week when it comes to the writing side of things.  Too many cotton-pickin’ distractions.

Now for the travel photo!  This one’s from the Fortress of Louisbourg in Nova Scotia, Canada, from 1991.  It’s another shot from the trip my brother, Scott, and I took up north.  Enjoy!  And see you tomorrow!
