At this stage in my development as a writer, I need to attend a workshop about once a year…the kind of intense, all-business workshop that teaches me something new, helps me work on what needs work, and builds my confidence and morale. Building confidence and morale alone are worth the price of admission, after eleven or so months of constant rejections and/or non-responses from editors and agents. I’m happy to say I have such a workshop in the near future, which I’m sure I’ve mentioned here a few times. It’s set for early May in Lincoln City, Oregon, and it will focus entirely on marketing novels. I’ve just realized it’s only a month away, and now I’m more psyched than ever. My heart beats faster just thinking about it. I was supposed to attend this same workshop last November, but it was postponed, so it’s been a long haul since the last one I attended. Now if I can just finish the novel I’m writing before I hit the road. I could finish it later, but I’d really prefer to have it done before the workshop. Then, I can set out with a clean slate and focus completely on learning and practice.
Now for today’s travel photo. This one’s a shot of me at Seneca Rocks, West Virginia from June 1999. It’s fitting, as that part of West Virginia is one of the settings of the novel I’m writing right now. See you tomorrow!
