When I return from a trip, there’s always some lost time on the writing side. It takes a while to take care of all the things that got set aside while I was away, like lawn work, home repair, day job work, bills, and other obligations. But finally, after coming home late Monday evening, I’ve forced myself back in the groove. Tonight, I did a good bit of work on a blurb and query for my latest novel, applying what I learned at the workshop. I also worked on a marketing strategy for the novel and sent out a story to a web market with a May reading window. So all in all, I’m pretty pleased. Though my output for today still fell short of what it usually is, at least I got something done and made some progress, which is three-quarters of the battle. This weekend, I hope to really turn up the volume. My goal is to finish revisions on the latest novel (courtesy of my first reader’s comments), rewrite the proposal for that novel, and get the whole package tuned up and ready to send next week. On Tuesday, I want to e-mail the query, chapters, and proposal to a slew of editors. A new novel’s like a twenty dollar bill you find on the sidewalk: you can’t wait to get it out there and put it to use! See you tomorrow.
