On the Mend

May 20, 2009

Today was a wild day, thanks to problems at work, but I did get through it.  Tomorrow has got to be a better day, if for no other reason than that it’ll be a day closer to the long weekend.  Beautiful weather today, though, and I did get out in it…to mow the lawn and do chores.  I didn’t really mind the outdoor work, though, after being cooped up from November through April, more or less, thanks to the unique local climate.  The mowing did seem to stir up my cough a bit, unfortunately, but I’ll take some cough syrup before bed and hope it settles down.  Not much progress on the writing front today, though I did send five e-mail queries to editors, which is great.  The publishing world, like other business, will pretty much shut down from Friday (or Thursday) through Monday, so I’m done sending out marketing materials for now.  Over the long weekend, I’ll prep the next batch to send, plus pull together snail mail follow-ups to the ones that have already gone out.  I also have to finish revising the current novel, which I’ve been putting off, and start prepping material to take to New York in June.  Plenty of writing to do…but I’ll tell you, I’m definitely going to take a break and have some honest-to-goodness recreation over the weekend.  It hit me tonight that I need to relax a bit.  Also need to catch up on my reading, which is woefully behind, as always.

What book am I currently reading?  The Time Traveler’s Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger.  I know I’m coming late to this one, well behind the groundswell of popular approval…but wow.  What a book.  I’ll have to write more at length about it in a future post, when I’m done reading it, but for now, suffice it to say, this book is unbelievably incredible.  I wish I’d written it.

See you tomorrow.
