Over the weekend, the ladder leading from my back deck into my above-ground swimming pool collapsed right under me! The metal struts on either side of the ladder just literally cracked apart in multiple places, eaten away by decades of chemical abuse. Fortunately, I wasn’t hurt when the thing crumbled, but I came close. The thing is, Tuesday of this week was forecast to be a beautiful day for swimming…but no one would be able to enjoy it without a ladder. Oh, it would be easy enough getting in, but not so easy getting back out again! So I knew it would be a shame to miss Tuesday swimming, especially since this summer has not had many great days for pool activities. But I got myself in gear and raced out to the pool supply place after work today. Bought a ladder (for a hundred bucks! Oh, the pain…) and worked with my dad, Bob the Tool Man, to get it installed. Took a few hours, but now the pool is back in perfect working order again, just in time for my wife to enjoy it during the morning and afternoon. Also in time for me to do some night swimming, which I love. What a relief! Tomorrow, it’s supposed to be in the high 80s to low 90s, so it’ll be just right…and the rest of the week will average in the mid-70s during the day, with the mid-60s at night. If I’d waited just one more day, we’d have missed the perfect swimming weather. See you soon!
