Day Off

August 1, 2009

One thing I don’t often do is take a day off from my fiction writing.  I’m so driven to succeed, I usually work seven days a week on it.  But today, I really did nothing significant on the fiction side of things.  I went to breakfast with my wife, helped my dad haul new shower doors and a vanity home from Lowe’s, swam in the pool, read a little, trimmed hedges, mowed the lawn, trimmed the yard, swept the walks, knocked down a wasp nest, and watered the gardens.  The only writing-related work I did was sending stories to three markets that reopened to submissions today.  It did take time, since each market had different guidelines and requirements…but no more than two hours total.  So I pretty much took the day off, and enjoyed it.  The weather was great, sunny and hot, so it was the perfect day to enjoy outdoor activities.  And it was just a nice chance to kick back, relax the writing side of my brain, and recharge.  Get ready to plunge into the next project, which I think is going to be a doozy.  A day off is not always a bad thing.

Now for another travel photo.  This one was shot on the isle of Capri, in Italy, in 1997.  What a beautiful place!  See you soon!
