The publishing world tends to slow down in the dog days of August. People take vacations and days off and try to get some down time before things ramp up for the fall season in September. That’s one of the reasons I haven’t been pushing myself too hard this month to send out novel queries. Plus, daily life and the day job have been getting in the way something awful. Even my attempts to write a short story and work on some other projects have been subject to constant interruptions. My productivity on the fiction side has slowed to not even a trickle. Which is why I have to admit I’m looking forward to September, when I’ll be jumping back into a regular writing schedule. Because the thing about me is that I need to write. When I’m not writing, I feel off balance, not right, and I get into trouble. I just really need that creative outlet. Maybe it sounds like a cliche, but it’s totally true. I can’t help myself. So as nice as this summer has been in so many ways, and as wonderfully enriching as my travels to Oregon and New York City have been, I say bring on September. But let’s hold off on the snow for another couple of months, okay? See you soon!
