Why do I keep watching Caprica on the SyFy Channel? It doesn’t grab me the way its predecessor, Battlestar Galactica, did. Nothing about it excites me. I don’t look forward to it or long to know what the next developments will bring. In fact, there are things about the show that annoy me and put me off. The main problem, I think, is that Caprica is kind of boring. I can appreciate what the producers, writers, and other creators are attempting, which is something very different…a family drama with a science fiction setting. But the result is not terribly inspiring. So why do I keep watching it? Blind loyalty to the last vestiges of the late, great Battlestar Galactica? Probably. I should just cut it from my recording list and move on to something better. But oh, wait; maybe that’s the issue at hand. Because I guess, when I get right down to it, there aren’t a whole lot of better shows on the air. We have Lost, Breaking Bad, and Mad Men for true greatness. Supernatural and Human Target for rip-roaring good junk food…Family Guy and South Park for laugh-out-loud hilarity. Doctor Who is returning this month and looks to be solid. But otherwise, what is there to watch? Nice argument for following a ho-hum show, huh? I watch it because there aren’t a lot of better shows on the air. Well, maybe that will change. Hope springs eternal with each new TV season. See you soon!
