I’m having a heck of a time selling some furniture right now. My wife and I bought a new sofa bed and dining room suite, so now we have to get rid of our used stuff to make room…but it isn’t easy. So far, I’ve put classified ads in the local daily newspaper, the local shopper paper, that paper’s accompanying website, and Craigslist. All we’ve gotten in the way of interest is 2 phone calls about the Craftmatic bed we’re selling, and one of those calls was a dud. (You know when someone says, “Don’t hold it for me,” they won’t be calling back, though they qualify by saying they’ll think about it or talk it over.) The second caller, an elderly gentleman, was supposed to come see the bed this afternoon, but called 15 minutes before he was supposed to be here and said he can’t make it till Saturday. So I don’t know what’s going to happen with this furniture. We have to move it out, we don’t have room to keep it, but we might end up giving it away. In fact, we’ve made arrangements with the local St. Vincent DePaul Society to come get the bed next week, in case the elderly guy doesn’t show up Saturday like he said he would. As for Craigslist, I know it works great in bigger towns and cities, but I got nothing but spam when I posted ads on the local pages. The one that really ticked me off was a woman (girl? none of the above?) who asked to see photos, then never replied when I sent her the photos. I know, it’s not a good time to be selling anything, what with the economy and all. Still, this is good, reasonably priced merchandise, and I’m amazed we haven’t gotten more interest. I mean, a dining room suite with table, leaves, six chairs, and full hutch for $600? It’s a steal, but classified advertising suckage prevails, and I have to keep sweating the details. See you tomorrow!
