Computer Plus Fiction

August 16, 2009

I got my wife, Wendy’s, new computer all set up today plus wrote a thousand words on the current story!  Now, it’s true my actual productivity goals for today were a good bit higher, but at least I made some progress, and that’s a great thing.  Especially the thousand words, which is my standard daily goal when I’m working on a project.  I haven’t hit that goal for quite a while for a number of reasons, so it feels absolutely fantastic to hit it for a change.  The story isn’t done yet, but at least I’ve made a bit of progress and built some momentum.  I’m planning to finish it in the next two or three days.

As for the computer, I have to admit the setup went pretty smoothly.  I had some trouble with the new wireless printer and a few other issues, but the total job only took about three hours…not bad for something of this nature, considering I tore down and moved the original desktop setup (tower, monitor, keyboard, and printer), then set up the new laptop, mouse, and printer and configured some of the software on the laptop in the process.  So now Wendy’s ready for the new school year!  She finally has a machine that’s up to the tasks she needs to accomplish, and that’s bound to help her productivity and morale.

In addition to the writing and computer work, I went to church and lunch with Wendy and her father.  Plus, I did some nightswimming in the backyard pool tonight.  The water temperature was in the high 80s, like bathwater, after the hot day we had around here.  It was so wonderful, I hated to get out of the pool at 10:00, though I had some work to wrap up for the day.  We get so few nice summer days and nights here in Johnstown, you have to make the most of them when you have them.  Thinking of summertime nightswimming and eating garden fresh salads on the back patio are the kinds of things that help get you through the six months or so of winter weather we typically get in J-town.

Hoping for a successful week for myself and all of you.  See you soon!
