Here’s what dedication to your craft gets ya. Tonight, I was faced with a choice: make my Daily Grand writing goal or watch the season opener of LOST. Now, that might seem like a no-brainer. If I have what it takes to succeed as a writer, I should happily cast aside all frivolous entertainment, especially that emanating from the ignoble boom box. And in all seriousness, it’s true that most of what’s on TV these days is junk. Just junk. Especially the “reality shows.” Nothing of value there; just empty calories.
LOST, however, does not fall under that heading. In fact, I’d say it’s one of the best shows ever. It’s a marvelous series that entertains while reaching ambitiously for new storytelling heights. Every episode brings fresh surprises and “ah-ha” moments of revelation. It’s just a great show, and I feel enriched by watching it. So it wasn’t easy considering the possibility of missing this season premiere after waiting so many months to see it.
But I had to make that Daily Grand, especially after missing it by half yesterday. So what I did was compromise. I watched the first hour of LOST (which was awesome!), then pulled the rip cord and wrote for the next hour and a half. And guess what? I made my word count goal for the day!
But I admit, I’m still cheesed I didn’t see the whole episode of LOST. At least I taped it to watch later! See you tomorrow!
