Dispatch from the Road

February 14, 2009

As I’ve mentioned previously, I’m on the road this weekend…in Erie, Pennsylvania, to be exact.  My wife and I are celebrating Valentine’s Day by staying at a bed and breakfast and visiting family.  No fiction writing for me today, so that makes a two-day break…possibly three.  I thought we’d be back home in time Sunday for me to do some writing, but now it looks like we’ll be getting home later than expected, which is kind of a bummer.  On the other hand, this weekend is all about making my wife (and first reader and supporter in every way) happy and giving her a break from the routine of job work and house work.  So this is a vitally important weekend for the relationship and the writing career, and I need to not worry about missing some word quotas along the way.  That’s one thing my mentors, Dean Wesley Smith and Kristine Kathryn Rusch, have always emphasized: family and health come first, before writing.  Plenty of time next week to churn out those words and make headway on the new novel.

By the way, Dean and Kris both have great blogs, found here and here.  They’re a wellspring of information on all aspects of fiction writing, from the creative process to establishing a career, and I recommend you check out their blogs if you’re at all interested in the field.

So, back to visiting with family now (I’m borrowing their laptop to keep the daily blog alive!) and then I’ll post again from home tomorrow night.  Planning to start up a new streak of writing Monday.  Because why?  Because “persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”  See you tomorrow!
