At this point, I’m about 17,000 words out from the end of my current novel, so I’m driving myself hard to cross the finish line. Taking a comprehensive approach at the same time, referring back to what I’ve already written, trying hard to make it line up with what’s coming in the grand finale. Making sure that if I set up something earlier in the book, I pay it off in the end. As the saying goes, if you put a gun on the mantle in chapter one, you better make sure someone fires it by the end of the book.
Meanwhile, I’m also preparing for the marketing workshop coming in May, which requires a lot of work. One of the interesting outgrowths of this is that I’ve been taking a close look at the book I wrote before my current one…and I’m realizing I like it even better than I thought I did. That’s a great feeling. Often, it takes time for me to gain perspective on my work. It can take months or years to get a good idea of how the work hangs together. I’m glad this one is holding up well. See you tomorrow!
