Four Words Shy

March 30, 2009

As of tonight, I’m four words shy of the 75,000-word mark on my current novel.  In other words, by tomorrow, the end of the month, I’ll be three-quarters of the way done.  Which leaves one quarter yet to write in April.  Which feels pretty good.  Yet it’s challenging at the same time.  A lot of things have to happen in that last quarter, and I need to make sure I fit them all in without overloading the last section of the novel.  I need to pace this last quarter just right, ensuring strong payoffs for everything I set up in the first three quarters.  Hopefully, I can find time over the next few days to take a good look at where I am in the novel and make some more concrete plans that will enable me to succeed in my goals.  Wish me luck!

Now for today’s photo.  This one dates back to May 1982.  It’s a shot from another of my high school trips…this one a Math Club trip to the World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee.  (Thank you, Mr. Roccio!  It’s good to have an advisor who loves to travel!)  That’s me on the right, with my pals Bill Gallus on the left and Scott Young in the middle.  Behind us is the Sun Sphere, symbol of the 1982 World’s Fair.  What a great trip!  See you tomorrow!
