Insanely Busy

May 25, 2009

What happened to the weekend?  It feels like it was never even here.  Saturday, I saw Star Trek with my brother.  Wendy and I had company from out of town Saturday evening through Monday morning.  And Monday was by far the busiest day of all, when I tried to get everything done that I’d put off for the previous days.  I mulched, pumped water off the pool cover, shopped for flowers and tomatoes, went to Lowe’s, then Home Depot, then Staples, Wal-Mart, and Advance Auto Parts.  Next, I went back up to Staples to pick up my new desk chair (which I’m still adjusting to), then opened the back yard swimming pool and set up all the equipment for the season.  Next, I sprayed weeds, folded up the pool cover, put away the wheelbarrow, shovel, and garden rake…and it was nine o’clock.  No time left to accomplish anything on the writing side, which is discouraging.  Though, in truth, I did do some strong brainstorming during the weekend for a graphic novel proposal I’ve been dreaming up.  And I must admit I went into the weekend with the goal of relaxing and getting work done around the house…both things I’ve been neglecting over the past months and weeks in favor of solid novel writing, workshops, and marketing my fiction.  So on that front, it’s mission accomplished.  And when I get back to the writing full-blast tomorrow and through the rest of the week, I’ll hopefully do so refreshed and reenergized, ready to tackle my list of projects with new enthusiasm.

I also wanted to mention that I’ve changed the donation section of my home page.  Initially, I set it up so you could donate to help buy “chocolate doubloons” for my muse…my wife, Wendy…so she wouldn’t make me walk the creative plank.  Well, I’ve rethought it and decided to change the donation space to a “jukebox.”  Put in some money, and I’ll post a bit of fiction, poetry, or a mix of both.  I like that a lot better, because you’ll receive something tangible and (hopefully) entertaining for your money.  In this day and age, that’s pretty important.

See you tomorrow.
