Last night, I had the most wonderful night swim in my back yard pool. The Moon and Mars were in full glow, the air was calm, the crickets were chirping. It was so beautiful, and I thought about how lucky I was to be able to enjoy it. Then, this morning, I woke up to find someone had thrown a bunch of junk over my high fence into the pool. It was a real mess. They had vandalized the front yard and stolen some things, too, but the pool was the worst. And it reminded me of the impermanence of things and life and the world. How a moment of sheer beauty can be followed so quickly by moments of damage and loss. How all life is exactly like that: beauty and joy followed by ruin. Sometimes, I suppose, a little reminder like that helps keep things in perspective.
The other upside of all this? I just know I’m gonna turn this mess into a helluva story one day! Because, after all, writing well is the best revenge, innit? See you soon!
