As I continue plugging away on the current novel (which I can’t wait to tell you about, but superstition dictates I wait till it’s all done), my mind is wandering to thoughts of travel. I know, tres obvious. I feel locked down by the heavy work of writing the book, so naturally I want to escape. Blah blah thanks for the psychoanalysis blah. Anyway, I have two trips planned in the near future. In early May, I’m heading west for a workshop in Oregon. It’ll be a great one, too, totally focused on marketing novels. It was originally scheduled for last November and rescheduled…but I know it’ll be worth the wait. Hopefully, I’ll learn some things that will finally put me over the top and help me sell a novel to an editor.
After Oregon, my next trip is set for late June, to New York City! I do love NYC! My last visit there was back in 2005, so this trip is looooong overdue. While in the city, I’m planning to visit as many editors, and friends, and friends who are editors, as possible. Best of all, by then, I’ll have the new novel finished and ready to pitch!!! I can hardly wait!!!
It’s good to have something to look forward to, let me tell you. Especially when I have to spend so many waking hours in front of a computer screen, typing my heart out on day job technical writing or moonlighting fiction writing. Dreaming of Oregon and New York is what’s gettin’ me through my days these days.
