Office: Cleaned!

August 26, 2009

For the first time in probably a year, I’ve finished cleaning my home office!  What a chore, too.  My office has lots of shelves, tables, and surfaces where papers and files and receipts just pile up to the ceiling!  Plus, I’ve got collectibles and plenty of books scattered around, and many corners and crannies where dust gathers and develops a life of its own.  Needless to say, this cleanup isn’t something I do very often; I’d rather spend what time I have at home to do the actual writing work.  However, the act of cleaning my office does serve as a psychic cue, marking the end of one project and the start of another…or the end of one writing phase and the beginning of a new one.  In fact, that’s the time I’m most likely to do the cleaning, after I’ve finished a story, a book, an article, and I’m prepping for the next one.  That’s pretty much where I am at this point, so the cleanup was well-timed and beneficial.  Plus which, I’ve found some valuable notes and ideas buried in the avalanche of papers I’ve been clearing away.  So now, it’s time to move forward with the new phase, and add new dust and papers to the at-least-for-the-moment pristine (or close enough) environment in which I do my writing.  And blogging.  See you soon!
