One Chapter To Go

April 22, 2009

As I close in on the last pages of my current novel, it occurs to me that this is the first time I’ve documented my writing process for a project so thoroughly.  Never before have I blogged on a daily basis about the development of a novel, basically tracking it from start to finish.  When all is said and done, these blog posts will make an interesting document.  Reading through them could even help me improve my process for the next time around.

There have been some other firsts associated with this novel, as well.  For example, this is the first time I’ve brought my wife into the process before the completion of a first draft.  I’ve fed her pages as I’ve written them, and she’s provided input while the novel was taking shape.  I’ve also recruited her for brainstorming during the novel construction process.  And guess what?  I think the novel has really benefitted from her involvement.  I’ll definitely bring her into the picture sooner on future projects.

Now for today’s photo.  This one’s from the Outer Banks of North Carolina in August 2002…a shot of Wendy and me on a dolphin watching tour off Nags Head.  See you tomorrow.
