Sometimes, even the most dedicated writer must take a day off. Such will be the case tomorrow. I’m planning to go out with some pals from work for a few beers, and I know I won’t get any work done on my novel as a result. In the short term, the thought of a day off does sting; when you’ve built yourself up to such a level of discipline that you’re meeting a word count goal every single day, missing even one day feels like failure. But in the long term, I know the break will be a good thing. Clearing the pipes every now and then can help the process. Tickle the subconscious and fire up some unexpected connections that lead to surprising writing. So I’m looking forward to having a few drinks with my friends and returning to the novel on Friday.
Then, Saturday, I think I’m going to see WATCHMEN! Which I KNOW I’m going to love. It’s been my favorite graphic novel since it was first published back in the 80s, and the movie looks incredible. So I hope that works out.
Now for today’s travel photo! This one’s a shot of Wendy and me at Hoover Dam, Nevada, in 2006. See you tomorrow!
