Screeching Halt

August 30, 2009

Very little writing-related activity today, or all weekend for that matter.  I’m not happy about it, but sometimes it just works out that way.  The fact is, we had a great weekend weather-wise, and I had to get caught up on outdoor chores I’d been neglecting for the past few weeks.  Plus, I had other non-writing issues to address, and that ate up the time, too.  And now I stand on the verge of what I know will be a terribly busy work week, and I’m wondering how I can possibly fit any writing into my schedule.  In particular, I’m concerned about revising a novel by September 10 to have it ready for a great opportunity.  The more I look at the revision notes from the May workshop where I presented the book, the more discouraged I get.  Then again, as my mentors Dean and Kris always say, “If you can be discouraged, you should be.”  In other words, I need to snap out of it and put my shoulder to the grindstone!

Speaking of Dean Wesley Smith and Kristine Kathryn Rusch, they’ve just announced a new round of workshops for 2010 in Lincoln City, Oregon.  If you’re interested in a fiction writing career, or you already have one underway and need to continue learning in one way or another, go here immediately and check out the schedule!  Dean and Kris conduct wonderful, practical, and highly effective workshops that are worth every penny you spend on them.  My only regret is that they didn’t exist twenty years ago, when I was making half-hearted attempts at a fiction career and badly needed guidance.  Thanks to Dean and Kris, I’ve gotten my act together, made tremendous progress, and even sold my first novel!  So if you have any ambitions at all of pursuing or advancing your fiction-writing career, check the schedule and do everything in your power to get to one or more of these incredibly beneficial workshops!  See you soon!
