Things I Can’t Wait For

February 26, 2009

I’ve been devoting most of this blog to talking about fiction writing, which is what I’m most passionate about (other than my wife)…but today, I’m going to shift gears.  I’d just like to mention some of the upcoming things I truly can’t wait for, which I hope you’ll also enjoy:

1. WATCHMEN, the movie.  I was a huge fan of the original comic book series when it first came out, and I still love it.  Based on the trailers I’ve seen and the interviews I’ve read, I think the movie is going to totally do justice to this dark and vibrant vision from the genius mind of the great Alan Moore.  It premieres March 6, and I cannot freaking wait!

2. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, the TV series finale.  Throughout its run on the SciFi Channel, this show has been uneven…sometimes great, sometimes ho-hum.  But during this season, its last, GALACTICA has come to life.  Every episode has been exciting, stirring, and unpredictable.  We only have four more episodes left, and I can’t wait to see how they wrap it up.  I truly have no idea how the series will end.

3.  U2: NO LINE ON THE HORIZON.  U2 has been one of my favorite bands since I was in college, and they have a new album on the way in March.  Rolling Stone gave it five stars, and I’m psyched!  There’s no doubt in my mind this will be a great record; U2 might be a bit on the pompous side, but they know how to make thrilling music.

So there you have it.  A few of the things I can’t wait to see in the upcoming weeks.  Now here’s my travel photo for the day.  This time, it’s a shot of me in Dover, New Hampshire from 1986…part of a solo trek I made to visit everyone I knew on the East Coast.  That was the plan, anyway.  What happened was, I went from Johnstown to Greenville, Pennsylvania…to Dover, New Hampshire…to Easton, Pennsylvania…and ran out of steam.  I’d always thought of myself as a loner, but I discovered I wasn’t as good at spending tons of time alone in a car as I’d imagined.  So I never reached my furthermost destination of Clearwater Beach, Florida.  It all worked out, though; the very next year, I drove all the way across America and back with my pal, Don.  Here I am in New Hampshire.  See you tomorrow!
