It was one of those days. I hit the ground running this morning, and work was a bear and a half. I was swamped all day at the office, right up till the close of business. Then, on my way home, two drivers made eggregious moves and pulled out in front of me when I was right on top of them. I avoided an accident but was seriously cheesed the rest of the way home. As a result, I was more inclined than usual to do something I wouldn’t ordinarily do. While driving up a steep back street called Hogback (that’s what it’s called, folks), I saw another driver racing down the hill toward me. I decided on some vigilante action and flashed my lights to make him brake, as if there were a cop waiting for him down the hill.
But I got a dose of payback karma later. First, I got a call from my contractor, Eldon. He’s doing some work around the house this week…and he just called to tell us we needed to MOVE EVERYTHING FROM ONE SIDE OF THE BASEMENT TO THE OTHER so he could run electrical lines down for the new outlets he’s installing in the living room! Not a great thing, because our basement is FULL OF JUNK, so it took a long time to move everything per his request.
Then, around 8PM, I finally got my butt in the writing chair…and my Microsoft wireless keyboard stopped working. It’s been on the fritz lately, and tonight it just stopped. So I followed all the self-help steps, installed updated driver software, etc….and still, nothing. I called Microsoft as a last resort, guessing I had no warranty left, but I was lucky enough to still have a little bit of warranty on the keyboard. Unfortunately, I spent a half-hour on hold, then another hour and a half with tech support. Meanwhile, I realized my Internet had also tanked! Coincidence? I don’t think so!!! As a result, I ended up spending another hour on the phone with Verizon tech support, ironing out the Internet issue!
So here I am, feeling lucky just to type up this blog. Total number of words typed in my new novel for today? Zero. Big fat zero. Yeah, I’m pretty sure I got zapped by karma, all right. It’s a good thing I adjusted my production schedule, because otherwise, this kind of missed day would have given me a freaking heart attack.
It’s like they say: sometimes the bear gets you. Wow. I’m going to bed now.
But first, today’s travel photo! This one’s a shot of Wendy and me at Mount Lemmon, near Tucson, Arizona, in June 2006. We took my father-in-law to Tucson to meet his long-lost cousin, Barbara. We also got to do a lot of touring. What a beautiful area! See you tomorrow!
